Chaplin = £2.6 million: The market worth of Ipswich Town’s best five players

Given their league status, it is unsurprising that Ipswich Town has many highly regarded players, however even some of their finest players are undervalued.

Given that the Tractor Boys were in League One this time last season, it’s surprising how many highly regarded players they have. Only one of their players (Leif Davis) made the Championship Team of the Season, while others argue that more players may have been included.

With this recognition comes increased worth. Ipswich may have to fend off a number of clubs looking to sign their finest performers in the summer, regardless of whether they play in the Championship or the Premier League.

Kieran McKenna, the manager, deserves much of the credit for these players’ rise to prominence. He has transformed this season’s third-tier side into one that might face Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal in the league in 2024/25.

With that said, Football League World decided to look at Ipswich’s top five players and see how Transfermarkt evaluates them, and the results are as follows.

Ipswich Town’s five best players’ value, as per Transfermarkt
Player Position Value (£)
Sam Morsy MF 773,000
Nathan Broadhead MF 3,400,000
Conor Chaplin MF/ST 2,600,000
Kieffer Moore ST 1,900,000
Leif Davis LB 5,200,000

Sam Morsy – £773,000

The club’s captain is clearly the lowest valued player on the football data website, with a net worth less than £1 million. However, when it comes to athletes like him, relying solely on statistics might be deceiving.

He has eight combined goals and assists this season, but there is much more to his game than what the stats show. He’s one of those guys who can make the squad run, and that talent is valuable, thus Morsy should be worth more than three-quarters of a million.

Nathan Broadhead – £3.4 million

The Welsh international has been Town’s most consistent winger this season, and the wide portions of their squad are where they do not lack skill.

Broadhead has consistently contributed to Ipswich’s offensive since joining from Everton in January 2023. Consistently being near your best is one of the best qualities a player can have, and the data indicate that he has it in his locker.

Conor Chaplin – £2.6 million

Next on this list is the player that leads the squad in combined goals and assists. Chaplin is one of the few players that can excel in his role. He’s an odd combination of a central striker and an offensive midfielder, similar to Thomas Müller’s ‘Raumdeuter’ role in the Bayern Munich club.

He appears where defenders do not want him to be, and as an attacker, that is precisely what you want to do: force the defenders out of their comfort zone.

Kieffer Moore – £1.9 million

The second Welsh international on our list has the most impressive pedigree at the top level. In fact, he is the only one of the five Ipswich players who has played any significant minutes in the Premier League.

He demonstrated his ability almost quickly after moving to East Anglia in the January transfer window, scoring six goals and assisting once in his first nine games for Town.

Even though he is 31, a worth of little under £2 million appears modest, and Town would probably gladly accept him back for that amount in the summer.

Leif Davis – £5.2 million

Davis is the only McKenna player to make the best XI from this season’s second tier. He’s been an amazing revelation, to the point that, given England’s left-back issues, it wouldn’t be surprising if Gareth Southgate called him up.

Ipsiwch’s full-backs are often extremely advanced, thus the 24-year-old’s involvement in the team’s attacking play is not surprising. However, he is perhaps their most successful offensive weapon, demonstrating his potential for the future.

According to GIVEMESPORT, the 24-year-old is “firmly on West Ham’s radar,” and the club would likely leap at the chance to get him for little over £5 million.
