CBS Sports identifies Colts as an ideal destination for the veteran cornerback

The Colts have been mentioned as a prospective free agent suitor for a former two-time NFL All-Pro and Pro Bowl cornerback.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Buffalo Bills are poised to release Pro Bowl veteran cornerback Tre’Davious White as a cap casualty, and CBS Sports names the Indianapolis Colts as a possible landing point.

3. CB Tre’Davious White (Buffalo Bills)

White has been a star cornerback for several years now, but he suffered a torn ACL in 2021 and a torn Achilles that ended his 2023 campaign. Those injuries are likely a reason why White is now searching for a new team for the first time in his career, but the two-time Pro Bowler and 2019 interceptions co-leader will still be an intriguing player to watch in free agency.

Landing spots: Lions, Jaguars, Colts

The 29-year-old cornerback was originally taken by the Bills in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft and has gone on to become a two-time NFL All-Pro and Pro Bowler—but he has been hindered by serious injuries in recent seasons, missing 24 games over the last two seasons.

The 5’11”, 192-pound cornerback (with 31 1/4″ arms) made 12 tackles (10 solo), an interception, and two passes defensed in four starts before sustaining a season-ending torn Achilles in 2023.

Of course, the Colts are unlikely to depart this summer without adding a veteran cornerback or safety to their thin secondary.

White would suit the criteria at cornerback, bringing a veteran on the opposite side of second-year JuJu Brents while allowing the Colts to use their early draft resources on other positional needs.

In some ways, it would be comparable to Indianapolis’ Xavier Rhodes signing a few years ago, when the fellow former Pro Bowler proved to be a fine short-term match.
