CBS announces Chiefs’ Week 2 opponent with time

It’s Mahomes and Burrow at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 2 on CBS.

The NFL intends to disclose its full 2024 schedule on Wednesday evening, but several of the league’s major games will be announced one at a time.

The back-to-back world champion Kansas City Chiefs and two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes are among the NFL’s top ratings draws. That means Chiefs supporters will learn at least a couple opponents before the whole calendar is released.

On Monday, the league named the Baltimore Ravens as the Chiefs’ opening-night opponent for Week 1. More schedule news was announced on Tuesday, with Kansas City staying at home in Week 2 to host the Cincinnati Bengals in the late-afternoon CBS spot.

The NFL’s turnaround is surprising, given that there appeared to be a concentrated attempt last year to schedule numerous in-conference rivalry games with playoff implications near the end of the season. At least from what we’ve seen so far on Tuesday, the league wants to ensure that they take place with every star available.

Last year’s schedule called for the Bengals to face the Chiefs on New Year’s Eve, but due to a season-long injury to quarterback Joe Burrow, Mahomes faced backup Jake Browning instead.

The Week 2 spot almost guarantees a key showdown between two of the league’s biggest quarterbacks, as well as a rematch of the 2021 and 2022 AFC Championship games.
