Cam Heyward of the Steelers shares a photo following surgery for a groin injury

Cam Heyward, a Pittsburgh Steelers veteran defensive player, suffered a groin injury during the 2023 season and is now fully on the mend after undergoing an operation this weekend.

Heyward shared a snapshot on his Instagram story indicating that he underwent an unnamed procedure and is “ready to get back to feeling good.”

According to Allison Koehler of USA Today, Heyward had a groin injury on the first day of Steelers training camp, which contributed to his disappointing 2023 season. The 34-year-old was restricted to 14 snaps in Pittsburgh’s season opener against the San Francisco 49ers due to a torn groin.

After surgery, Heyward was given a 12-week recovery period. He was motivated to return to the field, though, and did it in half the time. Unfortunately, his fast recovery hampered his output.

Heyward had just 33 tackles in 11 games. His two sacks were his lowest total since becoming a full-time starter in his third season in 2013. His streak of six consecutive Pro Bowl selections came to an end during an injury-plagued season.

Following Pittsburgh’s loss to the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Wild Card Round, Heyward admitted to thinking about retiring. He instantly turned course and announced that he will continue his great career.

Heyward has been a key member of the Steelers’ defense since being taken 31st overall in the 2011 NFL draft. In his sixth consecutive season of being nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, he was honored for his charity activities off the field.
