Caitlin Clark Paid Outstanding Tribute to Kate Martin Before Fever-Aces Game

Caitlin Clark, an Indiana Fever player, had nothing but high comments for her former Iowa colleague, Kate Martin, ahead of Tuesday night’s regular-season game against the Las Vegas Aces.

Clark and Martin previously met on May 25, and the Aces won 99-80. The second game between the Fever and the Aces will be played at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, rather of the Aces’ traditional arena, which will allow an additional 6,000 people to attend.

Despite the considerably larger arena, some parts of the game, such as Clark’s long-term friendship with Martin, are expected to remain unchanged. “It’s kind of rare at the pro level what she can bring to a team, but she’s one of those people that’s not gonna care if she scores points, not gonna care how many rebounds she has or how many assists she has-she’s just gonna come in and play as hard as she possibly gonna, gonna be the best teammate she can be and those are the type of people you want in your locker room,” Clark said of Martin, according to USA Today.

Clark, who now leads all WNBA rookies with 16.2 points and 6.9 assists per game, came up short of winning an NCAA championship alongside Martin during their final years at Iowa.

The two rookies have stayed close after being picked by different WNBA teams, with Martin recently disclosing that they frequently contact each other about their pregame ensembles. Following Tuesday’s game, the Aces and Fever will meet twice more this season at Clark’s home court in Indianapolis, on September 11 and 13.

“She makes shots, she makes threes, she always has her feet ready,” Clark went on, “As a basketball player, she might sometimes be ignored. But she could do fantastic things—things I couldn’t accomplish! Her mid-post game is excellent; she has a beautiful little fadeaway and a high basketball IQ. Becky [Hammon] seeks for players like this. “I believe she fits that system perfectly.”
