BYU revealed a new throwback uniform today, and fans are reacting

It’s 1996. Among the best programs in collegiate football, BYU football is in its prime.

The Cougars, under by head coach LaVell Edwards, regularly light up opposition defenses with their inventive and potent air raid offense.

With a 12-1 record and a Cotton Bowl victory over the #14 Kansas State Wildcats, the ’96 season was one of the best in program history for the Cougars. Thanks to the offensive output of players like Steve Sarkisian, Brian McKenzie, Ronnie Jenkins, K.O. Kealaluhi, Kaipo McGuire, and Chad Lewis, BYU finished fifth in the country. Let’s just say that this team was stacked.

BYU football is going back in time for the 2024 season, showcasing some vintage pieces in a modern setting. This season, Cougar fans of all ages can celebrate the legacy of one of college football’s most illustrious universities, even though the team isn’t predicted to replicate the dominance of the 1990s.

This outfit will look fantastic when BYU and Kansas State play in a Cotton Bowl rematch on September 21. BYU would look well at home next to Kansas State’s unaltered jersey designs in the retro uniforms. Your granddad might need to be reminded that Sarkisian, the quarterback for the Texas Longhorns, isn’t number twelve.

It’s safe to say that when the Wildcats visit town, the Cougs will look their best. A program that is commemorating some of its greatest moments has a history of amazing uniforms—and an unpleasant phase with bibs. Cougar supporters ought to be ecstatic to experience some of the greatest moments in BYU football history. Even though I wasn’t around to see them, I know that I am.
