Burnley need to be patient with a 24-year-old

After Burnley was relegated from the Premier League, they signed Scott Twine from MK Dons in the summer of 2022.

The 2022–23 season saw the Clarets turn in an outstanding performance that gained them a spot back in the elite division of football as well as the Championship title.

Twine’s injury setback prevented him from making more than 14 appearances in the second tier, yet he still managed to score three goals as Kompany’s team earned promotion on the first try and during Twine’s first season with the team.

The Clarets may have taken Twine’s lack of appearances into consideration when they loaned him to Hull City, where he has started 11 of the Tigers’ league games but has not yet netted a goal for the Yorkshire team.

Both Burnley and Hull must remain patient with Twine

Even if the forward’s goal production for the Tigers hasn’t been great thus far this season, there is still hope that he will start to trend upward once more.

Twine helped his team score in two of Hull’s previous four games, which may give him the confidence he needs to help out more soon and eventually go back in the scoring zone.

Twine’s performance at MK Dons was fantastic, so it’s easy to understand why the Clarets initially signed him.

The Dons were unlucky not to make it to the Championship in 2021–2022, as they had one of the best League One seasons ever, finishing third with an incredible 89 points, but were eliminated in the play-offs.

Twine’s offensive prowess, which included an astounding 20 goals and 13 assists during the campaign, was largely responsible for the Dons’ successful campaign.

As champions Hull City did that season, they finished with 89 points, which would have been sufficient to guarantee automatic promotion in the 2020–21 League One campaign.

It’s quite uncommon for a player to have 33 goal contributions in the league, but Twine accomplished it in the 2021–2022 season, demonstrating his skill as a younger player.

Twine, who is currently 24 years old, should be able to resume this level of play if both Burnley, his parent club, and Hull continue to believe in him.

If he can regain his previous level of performance later in the season, the former MK Dons player might be the difference maker for Liam Rosenior’s team as the Tigers are presently chasing the play-offs.

The forward is still a developing player with plenty of time left to develop as a footballer, so even if the Clarets are a top-flight team—at least for this season—they cannot give up on him.

Furthermore, Twine might yet show to be a productive second-tier goal scorer, so Vincent Kompany might wish to stick onto him in case an unpleasant Championship return happens.
