Bumpus: An acceptance of the Seattle Seahawks’ reality

A few short weeks ago, sentiment surrounding the Seattle Seahawks was very different.

The Hawks, who improved to 6-3 on Nov. 12, still had a share of the NFC West lead after defeating the Washington Commanders. After that, though, things haven’t gone well for Seattle. On Thanksgiving night, the 49ers defeated them 31-13, and on Nov. 19 the team lost 17-16 to the Los Angeles Rams despite missing a last-second field goal attempt.

San Francisco now stands at 8-3, two full games clear of the 6-5 Seahawks in the standings following that 49ers victory.

Michael Bumpus of Seattle Sports stated that after this recent run, there is something that Seahawks supporters need to accept, particularly with reference to an offense that has had trouble finding the end zone this month.

“This is what we need to understand, okay? There won’t be an offensive coordinator fired,” Bumpus stated on Monday’s Seattle Sports program, Bump and Stacy. “I don’t think Shane Waldron, the offensive coordinator, will leave. The deadline for trades has passed. That’s not going to help you get better as a team.

Former wide receiver Bumpus, who currently does pregame and postgame coverage on Seahawks Radio Network, stated that the team’s existing roster and coaching staff must make improvements as there isn’t much Seattle can do to better this season.

Bumpus went on, “This is your team and this is who they are.” “They are a football squad that can use some more creativity on offense, suffers on third downs, and has occasionally had trouble pursuing the quarterback. Therefore, all you can do is hope that they make progress on these issues; significant change is not likely to occur.

Individuals want the quick fix right now, according to the text line that I read and the conversations I have with individuals. That’s just the circumstances you find yourself in. These are your coaches, that’s your offensive line, those are your outside weapons, and Geno (Smith) is your quarterback. Therefore, I don’t think it will flip or change everything for fans to think that a coach’s firing will.”

But this is not to argue that there is no hope left.

Bumpus stated, “I think you have to hunker down and hope that this team gets better, because on paper they have some names.” “They have a few guys who can score, but it’s all about execution.”

For the second straight Thursday, the Seahawks will travel to play the Dallas Cowboys with the goal of turning things around. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. on Seattle Sports 710 AM and the Seattle Sports app. Pregame coverage starts at 2 p.m.
