Bulldogs are Running Back Coach Dell McGee to depart for the Georgia State

Georgia Football is preparing for yet another coaching transition.

This time, it might be Dell McGee. According to Graham Coffey of The Players Lounge, Georgia’s running back coach will take over as Georgia State’s head coach.

McGee has worked with Kirby Smart at Georgia since the latter took charge in 2016.

According to reports on Wednesday, McGee and Buster Faulkner, a former Georgia offensive analyst and current Georgia Tech offensive coordinator, were the two top candidates.

Nothing has been confirmed by the University of Georgia or Georgia State, nor has McGee made any public announcements.

If the report is correct, the Dawgs will replace its running back and wide receiver coaches in a single offseason. Furthermore, Smart will take over as running and passing game coordinators, as McClendon and McGee now act in those capacities while also coaching their respective positions.

Now we’ll look at it from the fan’s perspective. It’s been more than 24 hours, and neither party has said anything. Then there was this tweet by Rusty MansellSo, if you didn’t already know, I don’t want McGee to attend Georgia State.

Selfishly, I want him to stay for at least another year! McGee has been a consistent starter for the Dawgs since Kirby Smart took charge.

McGee has played a significant part in the development of several of Georgia’s top running backs (minus one). He was already outperforming Chubb, Sony, Swift, and Holyfield.

McGee and Smart didn’t play him because they despised him. Check out his Twitter; he’ll tell you himself!) is an excellent recruiter.

I also don’t see the reason for leaving Georgia to become the head coach at a G5 school. Pay is likely to be comparable, with more responsibility.

I always follow George Costanza’s rule: never accept a job with extra responsibilities for a little pay increase. Just because you receive the recognition you “deserve,” it does not automatically imply satisfaction.

So, with that in mind, I’m not sure why McGee would quit the lucrative position to attend Georgia State.

If McGee leaves, Georgia will need to recruit two coaches in at least a month, as spring practice begins in late March. Kirby Smart will have his hands full. However, I believe we can all anticipateGetting the appropriate coaches is a smart move. Why shouldn’t we?
