Bucs vs. Colts Final Injury Update: A way for 2 key starters?

The Bucs’ Week 11 loss to the 49ers, which ended in a 27-14 score, was costly for the team’s defense as well as the game itself.

Three players departed the game with injuries: Carlton Davis III (hip), Lavonte David (groin), and Jamel Dean (ankle/foot). And it was going to be a long shot for all three of those important defensive starters to play, given the lengthy travel back to Tampa and the team’s subsequent schedule of another road game at Indianapolis in Week 12.

As expected, head coach Todd Bowles said that both David and Dean were out following Friday’s practice. However, he did leave room for Davis and Devin White (foot), who have been listed as injured all week.

Is There Some Hope For Carlton Davis III?

In order to treat his hip ailment, Davis was able to practice on Friday, according to Bowles. He was upgraded from limited participation on Thursday to full participation on Friday, which may have given some hope that he will play against the Colts on Sunday. Naturally, the team’s best cornerback will be able to suit up or not depending on how he feels over the next few days and leading up to the game on Sunday.

Although Davis hasn’t had the finest season overall and has struggled recently, the Bucs would benefit greatly if he could play versus Indianapolis. With its depth behind the two starters, Tampa Bay would struggle if it were without its best two cornerbacks.

While Zyon McCollum has shown progress in his second season, he is still far from being a surefire starter. Dee Delaney is also capable of filling in when necessary, having proven to be a reliable backup himself. With two interceptions, he is actually tied with Christian Izien for the team lead. However, in a game that the Bucs desperately need to win, Davis’ absence would ultimately force them to start their third and fourth cornerbacks. Therefore, Todd Bowles and his defense would benefit greatly from having him out there.

Other Improvements, Plus New Additions

Not just Davis saw an improvement in their practice status on Friday. Defensive end Devin White was limited on Friday and is labeled as questionable for Sunday after missing practice on Thursday and the walk-through on Wednesday.

Regarding White’s Friday, Bowles remarked, “He did some things.” “It’ll be up to the players to decide.”

When asked about White’s involvement on Friday, Bowles was unable to provide much additional information.

He was running about today. It all comes down to how he feels on Sunday. It will be up to him at game time.

Center On Friday, Robert Hainsey’s (knee) status was also improved. After training in a restricted capacity on Wednesday and Thursday, he was fully involved. He doesn’t have a status as injured going into the weekend.

In spite of the fact that some players saw improvements, the Bucs added two more players to their injury report on Friday. Due to a calf injury, reserve defensive lineman Mike Greene was listed as not participating, while Logan Hall was also absent due to illness. Chris Godwin, who played through an illness against the Titans two weeks ago, and Vita Vea, who played through one last week against the 49ers, are the two Bucs who have dealt with illnesses more recently than Hall.
