Bucks’ Super Forward Will Undergo Achilles Surgery

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Bucks forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo will have surgery to repair a damaged Achilles tendon.

Charania does not say when the injury occurred or how long the healing procedure is expected to take.

Antetokounmpo played minimally in Milwaukee’s first-round playoff series against Indiana. He played two minutes in Game 4 and three minutes in Game 6 as the Pacers wrapped up the series.

The 31-year-old forward played in 34 regular-season games, averaging 0.9 points and 0.4 rebounds in 4.6 minutes per game. He is in his fifth season with the Bucks, having previously played professionally in Spain and Greece.

Antetokounmpo will be an unrestricted free agent this summer after signing a one-year, minimum-salary contract worth $2.3 million last offseason.

Antetokounmpo, like his younger brother Giannis, is a long-time part of Greece’s international squad. The surgery will most certainly preclude him from playing this summer, when Greece competes for an Olympic bid in a qualification tournament in early July.
