Browns will allegedly interview a ‘hot contender’ for the OC post

Cleveland expects to interview Texans quarterback coach Jerrod Johnson for the open offensive coordinator post.

This week, the Cleveland Browns will begin their hunt for a new offensive coordinator.

After interviewing veteran NFL quarterback and Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and Seattle Seahawks offensive line coach Andy Dickerson, the Browns plan to interview Houston Texans quarterback coach Jerrod Johnson.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler was the first to report the news.

Johnson just finished his first season in Houston in 2023, and the Texans made the playoffs thanks to rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, who passed for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns against only five interceptions.

Johnson was a Bill Walsh Coaching Fellow for the San Francisco 49ers in 2017 and the Indianapolis Colts in 2019. He was the Colts’ offensive quality control coach in 2020 and 2021 before joining the Minnesota Vikings as an assistant quarterback coach in 2022.

Johnson met current Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans while he was with the 49ers, where he worked as a defensive quality control coach.

The New Orleans Saints have reportedly asked for an interview with Johnson.
