Browns to consider making a massive free agent addition to…

During the 2023 season, the Cleveland Browns experienced numerous obstacles, including dealing with major player injuries.

Despite the setbacks, the club has shown tenacity, going 8-5 as they prepare for a crucial Week 15 matchup with the Chicago Bears.

The Browns’ stout defense, which now ranks 14th in points allowed, has played a big role in their success this season. Notably, they lead the league in points surrendered, offering a stiff challenge to their opponents on a consistent basis.

However, the defensive unit will face additional challenges as they deal with the loss of a key member for the duration of the season. Unfortunately, defensive tackle Maurice Hurst Jr. suffered a season-ending pectoral injury, causing a severe blow for the team.

Hurts made the announcement about his season-ending injury on Twitter.

“My 2023 season is over, and the frustration is unbearable. However I am grateful to my teammates, coaches, staff, and the city of Cleveland for welcoming me and making me a part of this family. I’ll be back better than before.”

Browns Could Consider Massive Defensive Free Agent Addition

Hurst’s departure leaves a vacuum in the Browns’ defensive line rotation, where he played a key role, accounting for 39% of snaps. His stat line reflects his influence, with 22 tackles, 1.5 sacks, four tackles for loss, one interception, and three passes defended.

Replacing such manufacturing could be a difficult task. Despite little playing time, Hurst was recognized as one of the NFL’s highest-graded interior defensive lineman, earning an astounding 81.0 overall rating and ranking 11th among qualifying players at his position, according to PFF.

While the Browns still have solid defensive lineman in Shelby Harris, Dalvin Tomlinson, and Jordan Elliott, losing Hurst is difficult. Former All-Pro Ndamukong Suh appears as a possible target when looking outside the box.

Suh, who hopes to make a comeback this season, has approached several organizations. His latest stay with the Philadelphia Eagles demonstrated his ongoing productivity, making him an intriguing possible Browns target.

Adding Suh to the roster might help cover a vacuum in the Cleveland lineup, with the knowledge that he may not be forced to play significant minutes. Instead, based on his remarkable track record, he may smoothly transition into the rotational role previously held by Hurst, potentially delivering a comparable impact.

It’ll be fascinating to see if the Browns look into signing Suh. It would absolutely make sense for both parties at this time.
