Browns Send Message Regarding Trade For New Quarterback With Deshaun Watson Ruled Out

On October 29, the Cleveland Browns will play the Seattle Seahawks in a Week 8 matchup without Deshaun Watson.

Due to an injured right rotator cuff, Watson has already been declared out by the Browns. The news was revealed by Browns coach Kevin Stefanski on Wednesday, October 25.

Stefanski stated, “Deshaun will concentrate on his rehabilitation.” “I just think that the impact he took throughout the game on his shoulder left some edema that is impairing his throwing. I believe that resting this week and concentrating on his rehabilitation is what’s best for him. And as I’ve told you guys, I will always make what I think are the best decisions for our football team, for Deshaun. And I feel like this is the best decision for this week.”

The Browns will once again go to PJ Walker with Watson sidelined. With the Browns this season, Walker has completed 50% of his throws for 370 yards and 3 interceptions.

Stefanski didn’t seem too interested in the concept of trading for or hiring a seasoned quarterback to assist in Watson’s recovery. October 31 is the deadline for trades.

“I feel at ease with the guys that we have,” Stefanski remarked.

Stefanski Made Decision to Hold Out Watson Against Colts

This will be Watson’s third game-missing absence this season due to injury. He was benched in the first quarter of Week 7’s game against the Indianapolis Colts after sustaining a big hit. Watson was cleared after undergoing a concussion evaluation. Stefanski claimed that he chose to wait for Watson because he was concerned that he would worsen his shoulder injury.

“After the game, I have to make tough decisions. That’s my job.” Stefanski stated. All I felt to do was shield him. refused to watch him get struck. He took a serious blow, and I’m aware that he passed all the formalities, but I still wanted to keep him safe.

Watson went 1 for 5 for 5 yards and an interception against the Colts. His QB rating came out to 0.0.

Browns Sign PJ Walker to Active Roster

After securing Watson through a sensational trade in 2022, the Browns inked him to a $230 million contract. Although Watson’s prolonged absence is regrettable for the Browns, it is hoped that he will be close to full strength in the last stretch and possibly throughout the postseason, when the team would need him most.

Stefanski remarked, “He wants to play very badly.” “He’s giving it his all. It’s not for a want of trying. He’s trying his hardest to be out there, but given the blow he received and the swelling, I felt that it would be best to concentrate on his recovery this week. He’ll return as soon as he’s ready.”

Walker’s stint on the practice squad came to an end on Wednesday when the Browns added him to the active roster. Walker had been promoted by Cleveland three times, which is the most a practice squad member may be elevated.

Jordan Wilkins and Nate McCrary, two more running backs, were added by the Browns to their practice squad. Kareem Hunt has a thigh injury, while starting running back Jerome Ford will miss time due to an ankle injury. Wednesday was not a practice day for Hunt.
