Browns Receive Sad News on Deshaun Watson Ahead of Cardinals Matchup

Deshaun Watson might be out of the Cleveland Browns’ lineup for an additional week.

The majority of the Browns’ previous four games—which also included a rest week—have been missed by Watson. On October 22, Watson made a brief appearance against the Indianapolis Colts but left the game after taking a hard hit in the first quarter.

Although it is anticipated that Watson will return soon, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com does not think the $230 million quarterback for the Browns will play this week.

“Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson might rest his strained right rotator cuff Sunday against the 1-7 Cardinals and possibly aim for the Ravens game in Baltimore on Nov. 12,” Cabot wrote on Monday, October 30. “Sunday will mark six weeks since Watson first suffered the injury against the Titans, and he was originally told it was a four- to six-week injury, so resting again would seem to make sense.”

Watson was recovering from a shoulder injury inside the facility last week rather than practicing outside with the team. In his Monday media appearance, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski omitted any information suggesting that Watson is getting close to making a comeback.

He’s still improving, according to Stefanski. “Later in the week, we’ll make decisions of that kind.”

Stefanski Doesn’t Back PJ Walker as Browns’ Starter

In the event that Watson is unable to play against the Cardinals, the Browns will need to decide at quarterback. With two starts and a fill-in after Watson left the game against the Colts, PJ Walker has been involved in most of the previous three games.

Walker hasn’t played up to par, and the Browns have suffered because of his turnovers. Against the Seahawks, Walker mishandled the ball three times, including an interception that resulted in the game-winning touchdown for Seattle with two minutes remaining.

“That’s annoying because all those turnovers are expensive,” Stefanski remarked. With 17, we currently lead the league in giveaways, which is challenging. In the NFL, winning is extremely difficult. Winning on the road is challenging. Having the ball turned over makes it difficult to win. Therefore, we must sincerely commit to not giving that thing away as an offense.

Walker would start in place of Watson in the event that he missed time, as Stefanski has been quite insistent in previous weeks, but it appears he is weighing his options. In the event that Walker is not selected for the starting lineup, rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson will get another opportunity.

Stefanski responded, “We’ll make again, all those roster-wise determinations are for later in the week,” when questioned about possibly returning to Thompson-Robinson.

On his resume, Thompson-Robinson has only made one start, which occurred on October 1 against the Baltimore Ravens. Despite throwing three interceptions, the rookie did not perform well. 28-3 was the Browns’ loss.

Nonetheless, there were a few elements that did not support Thompson-Robinson. He received very little assistance from the run game during the defeat and didn’t even know he would start until a few hours before kickoff. He also had to face one of the best defenses in the NFL in Baltimore.

Cardinals Expected to Start Rookie Clayton Tune

The rookie Clayton Tune is anticipated to get the start as the Cardinals have made the decision to shuffle their own quarterback situation. After a 1-7 start, Arizona is switching to Joshua Dobbs, a former Browns backup, for the first eight weeks of the season.

“We’re going to keep ramping up Kyler [Murray] and see how he progresses throughout the week,” I said to all the quarterbacks this morning. Clayton Tune will start if Kyler isn’t selected, Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon declared on Monday. “I’m in agreement with all three quarterbacks regarding our future operations, having spoken with them.”

After a close loss to the Seahawks, Tune will be up against a talented Browns defense that is highly motivated. Tune was chosen by the Cardinals in the fifth round of the draft.
