Browns Issue a Firm Remark on PJ Walker Following a Failed Trade

Even though PJ Walker had some unsatisfactory performances in Deshaun Watson’s place, he will still be the backup quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.

On Wednesday, head coach Kevin Stefanski laid out the quarterback strategy for the Browns, saying that Walker will be the backup if Watson is unable to play.

P.J. is still the fallback. Stefanski said, “Yes.

Walker has made three appearances this season, including two starts. 618 yards, one score, and five interceptions have come from his passes.

Stefanski claimed that his ambiguous remarks on Walker earlier in the week were not taken into consideration and that he is only making choices based on the information that is provided to him every day.

It’s possible that Stefanski held off on making a statement regarding his quarterback situation until after the trade deadline of October 31. The Browns were considering veteran quarterbacks who could provide the organization with a solid insurance policy going forward, namely Jacoby Brissett. But the Browns’ offer to sign Brissett was rejected. According to reports, Cleveland’s highest offer for Brissett was a sixth-round pick, and the Browns were looking for a second or third-round pick.

By the deadline, the Browns had completed just one sale as a seller. Donovan Peoples-Jones, a wide receiver, was traded by Cleveland to the Detroit Lions for a sixth-round selection. The Browns should have been able to trade that pick for a backup quarterback. It simply didn’t work out.

Deshaun Watson Looks Sharp in Return to Practice

The Browns have shown to be a deep team, but Watson’s situation is still unclear. For the first time, he practiced with the rest of the team on Wednesday, and his passes seemed to have more zip. Due to a rotator cuff issue, Watson has missed the most of the last four games due to injury.

Even after Watson returned to the field, Stefanski was not prepared to declare him back.

Regarding Watson, Stefanski stated, “He’s making progress.” He’s putting in a lot of effort, working around the clock, both within and outside of this facility, to have it resolved. Consequently, I believe that the rehabilitation process never stops having an impact.

On October 22, Watson made a try to play against the Indianapolis Colts, but he was only able to play for a quarter. He was taken out of the game after suffering a strong blow to the shoulder. Watson went just 1-of-5 for 5 yards with an interception before he left the game.

Browns Rookie WR Cedric Tillman Expected to be More Involved

With Peoples-Jones traded, there is space for one more wide receiver to enter the mix. Cedric Tillman, whom the Browns selected in the third round of this season, seems to be the next man up.

Tillman has just made one catch this season and has been a healthy scratch for the past three games.

According to Stefanski, “it does open a pathway to getting Ced more involved.” “Games have shown it to me. I’ve witnessed it in preseason games and practices. We liked the kid when he was coming out because of this. His physical attributes are impressive. He has been working quite hard, but we haven’t been able to motivate him to start. And a lot of that is determined by the roster according to availability. And you can only bring so many to the game. But he’s remained very diligent, works hard at it.”

On Sunday, the Browns take on the 1-7 Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals are trying to resolve their own quarterback dilemma. Joshua Dobbs, a former starter and member of the Browns, was sent to the Minnesota Vikings. If Kyler Murray isn’t prepared for his first game of the year, rookie Clayton Tune will take the field.
