Browns injuries: Finally, some good news; PS defender also added

Having Grant Delpit back in the center of the Browns defense for the playoffs would be significant.

We have written story after story about the Cleveland Browns losing another player to injury on what seems like a daily basis. This level of optimism for the Browns roster has been unusual this season. Despite this, Cleveland forged ahead, clinched the top Wild Card berth, and will now meet the Houston Texans on Saturday.

Even the Browns’ injury concerns were highlighted in Tuesday’s injury report, with 10 players missing out the first postseason practice.

Finally, on Wednesday, there was some good news.

The team confirmed the return of safety Grant Delpit from injured reserve, as well as the addition of CB Kalon Barnes to the practice squad:

We’ve designated S Grant Delpit for return from injured reserve. CB Kalon Barnes was also signed to the practice squad. » brow.nz/273bec

Delpit last played against the Jacksonville Jaguars on December 10th. When he collided with teammate Myles Garrett, he was wounded.

With Rodney McLeod and Anthony Walker out for the season, getting Delpit back and hoping for Juan Thornhill to play this week would provide DC Jim Schwartz with some versatility in the middle of the defense.D’Anthony Bell and Ronnie Hickman have performed admirably in place of the three veteran safety, but depth is critical in the playoffs.

Barnes was selected in the seventh round of the NFL draft in 2022. He has only appeared in two games, totaling nine special teams snaps. CB Herb Miller was brought in for a visit by the Browns on Tuesday, but Barnes was signed this week.

To play against the Texans on Saturday, Cleveland must activate Delpit from injured reserve and waive someone from the 53-man roster.
