Browns elevate two rookies to active roster

QB Joe Flacco and CB A.J. Green III have been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster by the Cleveland Browns.

With rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson in the concussion protocol after being hit in the Browns’ loss to Denver last week, Joe Flacco is expected to make his first start for the team.

In his 16th NFL season, Flacco has spent time with the Ravens (2008–18), Broncos (2019), and Jets (2020–22) and has made appearances in 183 games with 180 starts. As a starter, he had a 99-81 record. He won the Super Bowl MVP award after leading the Ravens to victory in Super Bowl XLVII.

On November 20, Flacco joined the Browns’ practice squad and will don No. 15.

The Browns promoted A.J. Green III from the practice squad in addition to Denzel Ward, the cornerback, who is expected to miss the game on Sunday due to a shoulder injury.

Green, an Oklahoma State graduate, is in his third NFL season. In 2020, he became an undrafted free agent and signed with the Browns. He has made 33 appearances in 33 games, including two starts. Over his career, Green has racked up 26 tackles and two interceptions.

He has appeared in two games this season for Cleveland and will wear No. 38.

Kickoff between the Browns and Rams is set for 4:25 p.m. EST on Sunday, December 3.
