Parker, 32, has coached in Denver for the previous three years.

Christian Parker is not new to the fast track.

The Broncos’ defensive backs coach has been on it for the most of his coaching tenure. He’s getting closer to ascending another rung on the ladder.

Parker, 32, is interviewing with incoming England and incoming head coach Jerod Mayo for the position of defensive coordinator, a source told The Denver Post on Friday morning. The interview was initially reported by the NFL Network.

Parker has spent the past three years in Denver under three different defensive coaches: Vic Fangio in 2021, Ejiro Evero in 2022, and Vance Joseph this season. He impressed everyone sufficiently that keeping him on the team became a priority.

Parker spent two years as a defensive quality control coach in Green Bay before moving on to the NFL. He previously attended Texas A&M, Notre Dame, and other colleges.

Joseph quickly formed an impression of Parker last summer.

“He is sharp, man. “He’s a star,” Joseph stated during the team’s offseason workout in June. “He’s an excellent partner to work with. As a veteran coach, I’ve been coordinating for almost seven years. … Speaking with Christian every day and bouncing ideas off him based on what he’s done with (Fangio) and others in the past has been enjoyable. We are making changes and building on what they did last year.

“He is smart, he works hard, and his players enjoy playing for him. “He is a star.”

Parker may not be the only young Broncos assistant coach getting coordinator consideration in the coming weeks. Denver has a few additional candidates that may be of interest, including defensive line coach Marcus Dixon and quarterbacks coach Davis Webb.
