This offseason, the Oklahoma Sooners’ wide receiver room has been a mess.

It’s undoubtedly the team’s deepest position group, but that depth has diminished throughout fall camp.

Jayden Gibson will be out for the season, while Nic Anderson will be sidelined for Oklahoma’s first game against Temple. Brent Venables revealed that Anderson will miss the first week.

Both players were projected to be among the Sooners’ top four wide receivers this fall.

However, there was some good news from Venables’ press appearance. Andrel Anthony, Oklahoma’s wide receiver, will play for the first time since sustaining a season-ending knee injury in a win against Texas.

Anderson had a breakout season in 2023, with 38 receptions for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns. Venables listed Anderson as day-to-day earlier this week, but the Sooners will most likely be patient with his recuperation, knowing they’ll need him for harder games ahead.

Anthony was having a breakout season of his own in the first half of the year. After collecting only 19 passes in his first two seasons at Michigan, Anthony had 27 receptions for 429 yards and a touchdown before missing the second half of the season.

All eyes are on senior Jalil Farooq, new transfer Deion Burks, developing speedster Brenen Thompson, and Anthony to spearhead the Sooners’ passing assault this week against the Owls.
