Breaking: West Ham United have decided to part ways with David Moyes

West Ham United has chosen to part ways with David Moyes at the conclusion of the season, according to Fabrizio Romano.

On Sunday (5 May), following the 5-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Romano wrote on his personal X account that Julen Lopetegui had already been approached to replace the 61-year-old, whose contract at the London Stadium expires this summer.

It is known that the decision to let Moyes leave was reached before to the Irons’ defeat in West London this weekend.

Given the club’s recent results, it’s no surprise that Moyes’ tenure as West Ham manager is coming to an end.

It’s a shame to see it end this way because he’s done an outstanding job at the London Stadium, easily becoming the greatest manager to grace East London in decades.

When he returned to the club in 2019, he spared the Irons from relegation to the Championship despite inheriting a disorganized group from Manuel Pellegrini.

He subsequently went on to win consecutive seasons in Europe, including the 2022/23 Europa Conference League in Prague last year.

If anyone from the last few decades deserves a statue at the London Stadium, it’s Moyes, which is why it’s so disappointing to witness what appears to be a club that has given up destroying his Stratford swansong.

Everyone appears to have ran out of steam. No one seems to be buying into Moyes’ game plan. Unfortunately, many supporters have turned against the Scotsman for quite some time now.

Lopetegui may not be a popular hire, and many people would prefer to see Moyes continue.

But that appears to be the direction David Sullivan and co are taking.

Let’s see how that goes.
