Breaking: Town Star Wants A Move To The Premier League

Sam Morsy is on the verge of joining fellow Egyptians Mohamed Salah and Mohamed Elneny in the Premier League, as his club, Ipswich Town, approaches automatic promotion from the EFL Championship.

The Tractor Boys, for whom Morsy is club captain, have had an exceptional season and are one point away from returning to the elite division for the first time since 2001–02.

They are three points ahead of third-placed Leeds United, and a draw at home to Huddersfield Town on Saturday will be enough to secure promotion.

Morsy’s side would join Watford, Norwich City, and Southampton as the only four teams in Premier League history to achieve back-to-back promotions (from League One to the Championship in consecutive seasons).

“It’s fantastic that we’ve remained competitive at such a high level. We’ve enjoyed the season and being together. “We’re going to fight until the end for each other,” added the Egyptian, who was awarded Supporters’ Player of the Year in April.

Morsy, 32, spent his whole career in English football’s lower divisions, playing for Port Vale, Chesterfield, Wigan Athletic, Barnsley, and Middlesbrough before joining Ipswich in 2021.

The Egyptian midfielder has played a significant role in his team’s outstanding season, appearing in all 41 league games and contributing three goals and five assists.

Morsy played nine matches for Egypt under Hector Cuper and was nominated to Egypt’s 23-man team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where he appeared in the tournament’s opening game against Uruguay.
