Breaking: Top star signs with Vols

Alejandro Moreno will join the Tennessee men’s tennis team in 2024-25, head coach Chris Woodruff said Thursday.

The Knoxville native spent the previous two seasons at Auburn, where he went 33-26 in singles and 26-22 in doubles. In 2024, he went 11-9 in singles throughout the dual season, largely playing on courts No. 3 and 4.

Moreno was chosen to the SEC All-Freshman team in his first year with the Tigers, as well as an ITA Scholar Athlete and a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll for the first time.

“Adding local talent to our roster is very important to us,” Woodruff informed the crowd. “We are very happy that Alejandro is coming to Tennessee. Additionally, Alejandro has demonstrated success in our league, and we look forward to assisting him throughout his career.

During his second season at Auburn, Moreno achieved a career-high ITA singles ranking of 65th.

Coming out of high school, Moreno was ranked as the best player in Tennessee, fourth in the Southeast, and eleventh in the country.
