Breaking: Mark Venus is determined to sort things out after the loss to Millwall

Mark Venus is determined to sort things up following the team’s defeat against Millwall on Saturday afternoon.

Blues experienced a painful conclusion at the Den, losing Sky Bet Championship points for the second weekend in a row.

Eight days after Southampton’s Joe Aribo scored in stoppage time at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park, Japhet Tanganga scored a 90th-minute header for the Lions.

However, with these defeats coming on the heels of a hard-earned point away to Hull City and the latest late capitulation in the closing act of a second-half that Birmingham City had mostly controlled, there are still reasons for optimism.

Speaking to BluesTV after the game, Venus appraised the game as a whole and encouraged everyone to move on from their disappointment by making things right in future games.

“In a difficult situation, we were extremely cautious in the first half. We didn’t have much influence on the game; we soaked it up and defended well.

“But in the second half, we took the game to them and played with a lot more purpose. We went into several great positions but didn’t score. Then, of course, the killer hit us again with the sucker punch.

“The timing of it all, as well as the manner in which we are leaking goals, is quite disappointing. Everyone in there is in pain, but it is pointless to be in pain; you must resolve the situation and cannot allow it to continue.”

Following his arrival from Sunderland in the winter transfer window, the Assistant Manager was able to name Alex Pritchard to the Blues’ starting lineup for only the second time.

He played 83 minutes in the capital, and Venus discussed his influence on the pitch both against Millwall and going forward.

“You can see his impact on us and on the squad. He is an important player for us, and we have missed him since he was injured.

“He had his first start [since early February] today, and I believe he did well. We have to bring him through, and we need him fit, as well as all of these guys, for the final ten games.”
