The Detroit Lions are in the process of reducing their roster from 90 players in the preseason to 53 for the regular season.

According to Jordan Schultz, the cuts will begin with a couple of veteran wide receivers.

Donovan Peoples-Jones is the best-known name. The Detroit native simply couldn’t impose himself in enough good ways to persuade Dan Campbell and the coaching staff that he belonged on the squad.

Kaden Davis, who scored a big touchdown in Detroit’s second preseason game, will also go. Davis demonstrated good hands and some downfield skill, but it wasn’t enough.

Peoples-Jones, a vested veteran, is not subject to waivers and can sign with any other team after his release from Detroit is finalized. The 53-man roster cutoff is Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.
