One major Kansas City Chiefs player appears to be moving positions this season.

The Kansas City Chiefs are at the top of the football world. They’ve established themselves as a dynasty by winning the last two Super Bowls. Several notable players helped the Chiefs win each of those Super Bowls.

Now, one of those players looks to be switching roles. Which player will accomplish this? Read on to discover out.

Kadarius Toney Taking Running Back Snaps at Training Camp

According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, the Kansas City Chiefs intend to have WR Kadarius Toney take snaps at running back. This was underlined by Chiefs coach Andy Reid. He believes there were positive moments last season, and Reid thinks Toney enjoys playing that position.

Super Bowl Success

Believe it or not, Kadarius Toney played a significant role in the Chiefs’ one Super Bowl victory. This occurred in Super Bowl LVII, when the Chiefs faced the Philadelphia Eagles. Toney played a vital role on special teams in this game, returning two punts for 77 yards. Furthermore, Toney recorded a touchdown reception in that game, and the Chiefs won Super Bowl LVII 38-35.

However, he failed to replicate that accomplishment in the Chiefs’ subsequent postseason run. That is because Toney did not play in any of the Chiefs’ playoff games in 2023-24.

Dropped Passes Causing Position Change?

Kansas City Chiefs supporters are all too aware with the team’s dropped passes from last season. Last season, the team lead the league with 44 dropped passes. This represented an average of 6.9% of all passes thrown to Chiefs wide receivers.

It is worth noting that Kadarius Toney was at the core of this situation. Last season, he had numerous memorable dropped passes, which infuriated Chiefs supporters. This may have led to Toney being designated inactive for all Chiefs postseason games last season.

So, would converting Toney to running back make him more effective for the Chiefs? Or will the issue shift to Toney having too many fumbles as a running back for Kansas City? We’ll have to wait and watch if Toney plays a significant role in this position in the future, as well as how well he performs.
