Breaking: Kansas City Chiefs star signs 4-year rookie contract

The Kansas City Chiefs have officially signed every rookie from their draft class.

The Kansas City Chiefs now officially have brought every rookie under contract from their draft class.

The Kansas City Chiefs officially signed wide receiver Xavier Worthy to a four-year contract worth up to $13.8 million on Wednesday, according to NFL reporter Field Yates. The move brings the team’s entire rookie class under contract.

Worthy was the Chiefs’ first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, at No. 28 overall, after moving up from No. 32 in a trade with the Buffalo Bills. The New England Patriots were reportedly in “high-speed pursuit” of Worthy, but the Chiefs were able to complete a trade in time to catch him.

Worthy was a downfield receiver from the University of Texas known for his outstanding speed. He smashed the NFL Combine record for the quickest 40-yard sprint ever timed (4.21 seconds), surpassing the mark established by wide receiver John Ross in 2017.

After a season of discontent with the majority of the receiving corps, the Chiefs made another huge investment in Worthy, as well as prized free agent Marquise Brown. Brown and Worthy will now join Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce to form Patrick Mahomes’ core pass-catching trio in ’24.

In 2023, Worthy had 75 receptions for 1,014 yards and 5 touchdowns for the Longhorns.
