Breaking: Ipswich Town Striker Retires At 35

Sone Aluko, a 35-year-old Town attacker, has retired, according to the club.

Aluko joined the Blues on a free transfer in the summer of 2021, having previously left Reading.

During his three seasons with the Blues, the Nigeria international made 33 starts and 29 substitute appearances, scoring four goals, however he only started two games and appeared five times from the bench in 2023/24.

Aluko spent the majority of the season viewing games with the analysts and providing feedback to manager Kieran McKenna. It is likely that Hounslow-born Aluko will remain with the Blues in some manner.

After coming through Birmingham’s development system, Aluko spent time on loan at Aberdeen and Blackpool before returning to the Dons on a permanent basis after making one senior substitute appearance for the Midlanders.

After a spell with Rangers, he moved to Hull and Fulham. He joined Reading in August 2017 and spent time on loan in China with Beijing Renhe.

Prior to joining Town on a free transfer, the seven-times capped Nigeria international nearly joined Derby County after a trial.
