Breaking: Ipswich Town Seal The Transfer Of Top Striker

Town are reportedly looking to sign free agent Benin international striker Steve Mounié.

According to AfricaFoot, the Blues are looking to sign the 29-year-old for a three-year contract.

Mounié left Stade Brestois, which finished third in the French top division last season, at the end of June after four years and 33 goals in 135 matches.

Prior to that, the Parakou-born frontman had spent three seasons with Huddersfield Town, joining from Montpellier, where he had come through the youth system before breaking into the senior side in 2014 for €13 million (£11.5 million) plus add-ons as the Terriers prepared for their first Premier League season.

While in West Yorkshire, the 6ft 3in tall Mounié, who was on loan at Nîmes while with Montpellier, scored 19 goals in 55 starts and 40 substitute appearances.

Mounié, who has 53 caps for Benin and 17 goals, is also rumored to be interested in Turkish side Konyaspor and Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli, but he prefers to play in England or France.

Town, who have never had a Beninese player in their history, are looking for at least one striker to compete with George Hirst for the number nine spot next season, with a second allowing Ali Al-Hamadi to go out on loan.

The Blues have made two offers for Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis, and there is suggestion that Town may target former Blackburn striker Ben Brereton Díaz. The 25-year-old Chilean international currently plays for Villarreal in La Liga.

Meanwhile, the Blues’ double offer for Hull City’s Jacob Greaves and Jaden Philogene has been reported to be £35 million plus add-ons, up from £30 million in the initial report.
