Breaking: Ipswich Town rekindles interest in £20million rated winger

Ipswich Town are interested in signing Omari Hutchinson on a permanent basis this summer and are looking for a £20 million fee for the Chelsea winger.

The 20-year-old spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Portman Road, when he helped the Tractor Boys win the championship. Hutchinson scored 10 goals and supplied six assists for Ipswich last season, and Kieran McKenna is determined to get him back for the club’s first season in the top division in 22 years.

Chelsea, on the other hand, has recently activated a condition in Hutchinson’s contract that will prolong his contract until 2026. That, however, could be to safeguard his value more than anything else, as talk about the Jamaica international’s future remains high.

McKenna, who agreed a contract extension with Ipswich on Thursday, wants to return to Portman Road, and the club is preparing a £20 million bid for his services, according to football.london. However, Ipswich are far from alone in the race to sign Hutchinson.

VfB Stuttgart, Ajax, and Feyenoord are just three of the clubs monitoring the winger’s status following a successful season last year. However, the opportunity to work with McKenna again and be a part of what promises to be a memorable season for Ipswich may win over Hutchinson.

The Jamaican has talked glowingly of McKenna, who Chelsea recently considered for the head coach position. Hutchinson told The Athletic during the 2023/24 season: “The coach saw me while I was with Chelsea Under-21s and recognized that I could push well.

“But I didn’t do it to the fullest extent possible. He added, ‘I’m going to need that from you if you want to play for me in the Championship.'”

Hutchinson subsequently remarked, “Tactically, he is simply a genius. I’ve made significant progress since coming here. He, his coaching staff, and the other players all helped me progress. In the offensive third, he has just instructed me to be free, to do what I do best – ‘Go at players, that is why we signed you’.
