The family of a woman who was stabbed to death described her as having a “contagious smile” that “lit up any room”.

Courtney Mitchell, 26, of Ipswich, died on Tuesday after suffering severe injuries in an incident on Burrell Road in the town just after 19:10 BST.

A murder inquiry was begun, and a 27-year-old male was charged with murder following the event and appeared in court earlier.

In a statement, the mother-of-three’s family described her as “beautiful”.

“No amount of words can comprehend what type of person Courtney was but we will try to share some of her light,” they told us.

“Her infectious smile brightened each room, and her laughter was the sweetest sound in our home. She was always there for everyone, whether they were family, friends, or strangers, with boundless generosity and empathy. She was playful, aggressive, and incredibly loyal.”

Ms Mitchell was a mother of two sons and a daughter who, according to her relatives, loved her “immeasurably”.

“We miss you and you are forever in our hearts and as a family we are completely and utterly devastated and broken,” according to them.

“A void will always be left and a place at the table will always be set for you.”We will continue to fight for her and get her the justice she deserves, because she deserves everything.”

They added in their statement that Ms Mitchell was “very intelligent, extremely funny, and the life and soul of any gathering” and that she “touched the lives of so many with her warmth and generosity”.

They thanked the community for their support.

Police said a Home Office post-mortem examination found that Ms Mitchell died from stab wounds to the chest.

Logan Burnett, 27, of All Saints Road, Ipswich, was charged with murder on Thursday.

He appeared before magistrates and at Ipswich Crown Court earlier and was remanded in custody to appear before the Crown Court again on 25 November.

A police cordon was in place following the incident but has since been lifted.

Police continue to appeal for information.
