Breaking: Indianapolis Colts Get Scary News About Second-Year Quarterback Injury

Another update on Anthony Richardson’s tragic injury saga comes only months after the Indianapolis Colts selected him fourth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.

We frequently hear the well-known line about imitating life from art and vice versa, but a less well-known but potentially equally correct line regards the copying of team and quarterback.

Many times, one team’s fortunes are inextricably linked to another; the Chiefs’ success is inextricably linked to quarterback Patrick Mahomes; the New England Patriots would not have 12 Super Bowl rings if Tom Brady – recently inducted into the Pats’ Hall of Fame – had not been selected with the 199th pick in the 2000 NFL Draft.

Existential Mirroring For The Indianapolis Colts And Their 2nd Year Quarterback

However, in certain mitigating conditions, the essence of one appears to strangely parallel the trajectory of another. The 2023 Indianapolis Colts are an excellent illustration of this.

In 2023, Richardson’s and the Colts’ seasons may be readily summarized in three words. “Optimistic but frustrating”.

The former Florida quarterback was having some good performances to open the season, going 2-2 and demonstrating his dangerous dual-threat skills and rocket-arm that made him such a tremendous, if perhaps a little raw, draft prospect.

Richardson has not played since spraining his AC joint against the Tennessee Titans in Week 5, and some in the football world question whether he will be fully fit for Week 1.

The same can be said for Indianapolis: despite rock-bottom expectations for the Midwest franchise, with a roster devoid of more than a couple of blue chip players and major holes at guard and in the secondary, the Colts made it to a Week 17 “early playoff” decider against the Houston Texans, where only a dropped pass stood between them and their first AFC South title in a decade.

However, the frustration for both Indy and AR15 may soon be placed to rest, as Colts’ general manager, Chris Ballard, has a huge announcement regarding his new franchise quarterback, according to Adam Schefter and ESPN.

Anthony Richardson Set To Be Ready For Training Camp In Mid-July

Although Indianapolis Colts fans will definitely be disappointed to learn of Anthony Richardson’s early-June pain, the fact that he is on schedule and ready to begin training camp will undoubtedly be welcome news.

Richardson has sky-high potential in the league, as many have touted over the last year and more, and with offensive guru head coach Shane Steichen and continued investment at wide receiver, running back, and other positions, the Colts believe they are in an excellent position to help their QB reach that lofty ceiling.

With Joe Flacco, who played effectively in place of the injured Deshaun Watson for the Cleveland Browns last season, the Colts have some decent short-term insurance in case Richardson’s recuperation falters. However, it is evident that, for the time being, Indianapolis is confidence in their quarterback’s health and future with the franchise.
