The Houston Texans have increased their quarterback depth ahead of the regular season.
The Houston Texans have reduced their roster to 53 players before of the regular season and are preparing their practice squad for the 2024 season.
On Thursday, the Texans added quarterback Kedon Slovis, who formerly played for the Indianapolis Colts, to their practice squad. After being waived on Sunday, the BYU product finds his feet in Houston.
Slovis concluded his career in Provo, but he started at USC and played for three years before transferring to Pitt. He finished his five-year college football career at BYU, totaling 11,689 passing yards and 80 touchdowns.
The undrafted quarterback signed with the Colts after the draft. Slovis completed 16 of 22 throws for 149 yards during the preseason with Indianapolis.
Slovis is an interesting addition to the Texans. Backup quarterbacks Davis Mills and Case Keenum’s contracts are due to expire after the 2018 season, allowing the 23-year-old quarterback to potentially step in as the team’s backup.
Slovis had 1,716 yards and 15 touchdowns before sustaining a season-ending injury after only eight games with the Cougars last year.
It will be interesting to see how the quarterback position plays out, since Slovis may be the third quarterback in Houston and a long-term backup in the league.
