Breaking: Cleveland Browns Sign a Defensive Line Coach to Work with Super Rookie

The Cleveland Browns were a force to be reckoned with in the AFC this season, even with injuries to their starting backfield.

They finished with a positive score difference, won eleven games, and were guaranteed the top AFC Wild Card berth. But the franchise ends the year with a bad taste in their mouth after a terrible loss during Super Wild Card Weekend.

The Browns made a change to their coaching staff on Saturday in an effort to solidify their status as Super Bowl hopefuls. Jacques Cesaire, a former assistant coach for the Houston Texans, will join Cleveland as their defensive line coach for the 2024 year, according to Tom Pelissero.

Last season, Ben Bloom used that title. Since 2020, he has been employed by the Browns, and there is still no evidence that Cleveland has chosen to fire the seasoned assistant coach. Bloom is probably going to go to one of Kevin Stefanski’s open positions. From 2020 until 2022, Chris Kiffin oversaw the team’s defensive line; however, he joined the Houston Texans this season to take over as linebackers coach.

Jacques Cesaire: Leaves Houston for Cleveland Browns

The Browns have returned the favor by signing Jacques Cesaire, the defensive line coach who the Houston Texans stole from Cleveland during the previous summer. Before entering the media, the former defensive end for the San Diego Chargers spent nine years in the NFL. Cesaire’s career in front of the camera was brief as he transitioned into coaching in 2015. He was born in Southern Connecticut. Under head coach Dale Lindsay, he was the defensive line coach for the San Diego Toreros until 2019. With Cesaire, San Diego won the Pioneer Football League every year.

In 2020, the native of Massachusetts joined the NFL and assumed the same position with the Buffalo Bills under Sean McDermott. He played for the AFC East team for two seasons, winning the division each time. Mario Addison, an undrafted free agent who became a star, recorded 12 sacks under Cesaire. In 2022, the assistant coach relocated once more and joined the Houston Texans as a defensive lineman. Following a three-win campaign in his debut season with the Texans, they secured their postseason spot in 2023 with ten victories. 19.5 sacks were totaled by youngster Will Anderson and veteran Jonathan Greenard.

Cleveland Browns: Elite Defensive Line

Next season, Jacques Cesaire will have an abundance of quality at his disposal. Cleveland’s defensive line is led by former Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett. This season, the superstar recorded 14 sacks. This season, Alex Wright and Za’Darius Smith each had at least five sacks.
