Andre Dozzell, a former Ipswich Town midfielder, has joined Championship team Portsmouth.

Andre, the son of Blues great Jason, came through Ipswich’s youth ranks and scored on his debut at the age of 16 in 2016, just like his father. He made 93 appearances for his native club before joining QPR for £1 million in 2021 after the West London club activated a release clause in his contract.

Dozzell made 98 appearances for the R’s, spent the second half of last season on loan at Birmingham, and became a free agent this summer when his contract expired.

He recently had a trial at newly relegated Sheffield United, where he scored in a friendly against Chesterfield, but has already signed a one-year contract with newly promoted Portsmouth.

“Andre brings plenty of Championship experience, having spent the majority of his career at this level,” stated Pompey manager John Mousinho.

“He chose to come here over other options and is someone with a genuine desire to succeed at this club.”

“Andre is a very technical midfielder and has the athleticism to get around the pitch and compete, so we’re delighted to welcome him to Pompey.”
