A member of the 2023 Atlanta Braves is hanging them up.

The Atlanta Braves struck gold with a free agency signing a few years back, and they received a decent return on their investment.

But now, after twelve years, he’s retiring.

The Braves signed Collin McHugh in March 2022, fresh off a season with the Tampa Bay Rays in which he pitched brilliantly, and were rewarded for their faith.

Atlanta signed McHugh for two years and $10 million, and the righty went 3-2 with a 2.60 ERA in 69.1 innings across 58 games. McHugh was regularly employed as an emergency option, coming in when a starter blew up early and providing numerous innings of relief to bridge the starter’s brief stint in the bullpen.

However, after numerous IL stints for shoulder issues in 2023, which caused him to miss over 46 days in total, he has decided to retire.

McHugh issued a goodbye letter on Instagram, thanking the six companies for which he played during his career.

As McHugh mentioned, he was an 18th-round draft pick out of an NAIA school, which is not typical of someone who makes it to the major leagues. Nonetheless, he went 71-47 with a 3.72 ERA over nearly 1000 innings.

Best wishes, Collin, and congratulations on retirement.
