Birmingham City has indicated interest in signing Slavia Prague defender Aiham Ousou, according to Czech sports website inFotbal.cz.

The 24-year-old central defender, who has been a key player for the Czech giants, is anticipated to leave the club, catching the attention of the Blues.

Ousou has played for Slavia Prague since 2021, making 73 appearances in all competitions. His time with the team included appearances in the Europa League and the Conference League. However, his playing time has decreased over the last season, prompting loan appearances to Swedish side BK Häcken and La Liga team Cádiz.

Ousou started his international career with Sweden, gaining one cap in 2022. He has recently switched allegiances to his home Syria, earning seven caps since the beginning of the year. His debut for Syria occurred during the AFC Asian Cup, where he helped the side advance to the round of 16, only to lose to Iran in a penalty shootout.

Birmingham City are in need of defensive reinforcements and believe Ousou is a feasible alternative. The club has been active on the transfer market, most recently making an official bid for Hannover 96’s Phil Neumann. According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany, the bid was valued at €4 million, with prospective add-ons. However, Hannover quickly rejected the offer and stated that they are not interested in moving the 27-year-old defender.

With the transfer window still open, Birmingham City is looking to improve their defense options. The prospective arrival of Aiham Ousou might offer the team with the depth and experience it requires to reinforce its backline for the upcoming season.
