Breaking: Atlanta Braves sign right-handed pitcher

The Atlanta Braves added more pitching depth with a recent minor league transaction.

According to the club’s transactions record, the Atlanta Braves made a major free agent signing on June 14 by signing veteran relief pitcher Matt Carasiti to a minor league contract.

Carasiti, a 32-year-old right-handed pitcher, was recently designated for assignment by the Colorado Rockies earlier this month and elected free agency on June 10.

Carasiti, a former sixth-round pick in the 2012 MLB Draft, joins the Braves organization as a player with extensive major league experience.

Since making his MLB debut in 2016, Carasiti has played in four different seasons (2016, 2019, 2023, and 2024), appearing in 53 career major league games, five of which came as a starter in 2019 with the Seattle Mariners. Carasiti has struggled at times in his 58.1 innings pitched in the majors, finishing with a 2-2 record, a 7.41 ERA, and a 50:30 K/BB ratio.

This season, Carasiti has split his time between the major leagues and Triple-A in the Colorado Rockies system, appearing in seven games with the big club. Carasiti struggled in his seven outings, going 0-1 with a 10.38 ERA and a 7:3 K/BB ratio over 8.2 innings.

Carasiti made 20 relief appearances for the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes, going 2-1 with a 5.91 ERA and 26:11 K/BB ratio over 21.1 innings.

Looking ahead, Carasiti was assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett on June 14 and has since made his organizational debut, tossing two innings for the Stripers. One was a scoreless outing that included two walks and two strikeouts. His second outing lasted one inning, with one hit, one earned run, and one strikeout.

Carasiti, a guy with previous major league experience, could see time in Atlanta this season if he continues to perform well for Gwinnett. Given how the Braves’ injury situation has played out in 2024, there’s a good possibility he will.
