Breaking: Arkansas punter enters the transfer portal

The Razorbacks lost a third player to the portal after spring practice on Thursday.

According to On3Sports, Arkansas punter Max Fletcher has placed his name in the transfer portal after two years with the Hogs. He has two years of eligibility left.

Fletcher arrived in Arkansas from Melbourne, Australia, as the sixth-best punter in his class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He accompanied his brother Mason, another punter, across the Pacific when Mason committed to the University of Cincinnati. They even reunited once, when Cincinnati visited Fayetteville in 2022.

Fletcher experienced highs and lows as a Razorback, but the stats did not reflect many of the lows. As a freshman, he averaged 37.5 per punt in nine games, which was somewhat below average. To compensate, Fletcher booted three punts of at least 50 yards.

However, last season, the Australian was far more consistent. Fletcher received All-SEC Second Team honors after increasing his average punt distance to 46.9 yards and pinning the opponent in the red zone 19 times.

With Fletcher’s departure, Devon Bale is set to take over the punting responsibilities. Arkansas now has eight open scholarships to use.
