Breaking: Alabama DB entering transfer portal

Peyton Woodyard, a 2024 signee from California, practiced with Alabama’s second-team defense throughout the spring.

According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, Peyton Woodyard, Alabama’s freshman defensive back, entered the NCAA transfer portal on Monday. According to On3, he was classified with a ‘Do Not Contact’ tag.

Woodyard’s decision came only hours after Alabama acquired Charlotte safety Kameron Howard via the transfer portal.

Woodyard, a native of Bellflower, Calif., was a highly ranked 4-star safety in the Crimson Tide’s 2024 recruiting class. He originally chose Alabama over Georgia, Ohio State, and USC, among others.

Woodyard, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 188 pounds, was an early enrollee this spring and ran with Alabama’s second-team defense during spring practice. During the A-Day spring game two weeks ago, he recorded a pass breakup while defending tight end CJ Dippre in the end zone.

Woodyard is the third and second Alabama player to use the transfer portal during the spring window, which runs through Tuesday for undergraduates and Wednesday for graduates. The other two players were defensive lineman Khurtiss Perry and center James Brockermeyer.
