The Atlanta Braves are returning home for the winter after losing 5-4 in Game 2 of the National League Wild Card Series to the San Diego Padres.

Atlanta won 89 games, finished second in the NL East, and earned the second wild card. However, they were eventually swept out of the playoffs.

With the season done, the Braves may be saying goodbye to a few guys. Cody Williams of FanSided compiled a list of players that could be on their way out following their playoff exit.

Jesse Chavez, a right-hander, was on the list.

“While he wasn’t quite as dominant as he was in his remarkable 2023 campaign, Chavez still finished the season with a 3.13 ERA and 1.247 WHIP over 46 appearances for the club out of the bullpen this season,” according to Williams. “Much like [Charlie] Morton though, we knew coming into the 2024 campaign that Chavez was likely calling it a career after it was over, though he was even more forthright with that information.”

Chavez has had a successful career and has been one of the most consistent relief pitchers in Major League Baseball for numerous years.

Throughout his career, the 41-year-old has moved around a lot. He has played for the Braves three times in his career, as well as the Pittsburgh Pirates, Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays, Oakland Athletics, Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, Texas Rangers, and Chicago Cubs.

If this is the end for Chavez, he has had an incredible career. Chavez has a 4.24 ERA in 653 career appearances and has won 51 games.

We’ll see what the future holds for the experienced right-hander.
