Williams brings some versatility to the bench.

On Tuesday, the Braves made a small roster change, placing outfielder Brian Anderson on the 10-day injured list due to a lower body bacterial infection and calling up utility player Luke Williams in his place. Anderson’s placement on the disabled list is retroactive to June 22, meaning he may return in a week.

Williams, 27, appeared in four games for the team earlier this season, the most of which were as a fill-in for Austin Riley at third base. Williams is a versatile defensive player who has played every position on the diamond — including the mound — throughout his career, but he has never been able to hit.

Anderson has only made five plate appearances for Atlanta since being signed earlier this month. The veteran outfielder saw his playing time cut to zero with the signing and outstanding play of Ramon Laureano, relegating him to 5th outfielder responsibilities despite Ronald Acuña Jr. and Michael Harris’ injuries.

The Braves begin their series at St. Louis on Tuesday night, when ERA leader Reynaldo Lopez faces veteran righty Kyle Gibson. The first pitch is at 7:45 p.m. ET.
