Braves pitcher was curiously left off the top ten pitcher power rankings

MLB Network is at it again with the subpar lists.

Atlanta Braves fans have discovered that MLB Network rankings aren’t the best. Many people assumed that once the 2024 baseball season began, we’d be done with these poorly compiled lists. Unfortunately, the MLB Network is at it again.

This time, it’s the MLB Network’s in-season starting pitcher power rankings. Their top ten list includes several skilled and deserving pitchers. However, the list’s primary weakness is the absence of a name who has been pitching brilliantly for Atlanta.

Reynaldo Lopez somehow not seen as a top ten pitcher right now

We’ll try not to moan too much about this, because the list includes a number of really nice guns. However, making a top ten list of starting pitchers and leaving out the guy with the lowest ERA (Lopez has a 0.72 ERA) looks like malpractice.

Each of the names named above is off to a great start in their 2024 campaigns. However, none of them are pitching with an ERA below 1.00 in April. It appears that MLB Network favors players with name value, such as Dylan Cease (3-2, 2.78 ERA), over more qualified choices. I appreciate that Cease’s numbers may improve over the course of the season, but the list is currently ranked as the top ten starting pitchers.

Atlanta isn’t the only team that should be unhappy with this list. The San Francisco Giants also have a couple of right-handed pitchers with cases. Jordan Hicks (2-0, 1.59 ERA) is excelling in his new starting role, and Logan Webb (3-1, 2.33 ERA) has quietly been one of baseball’s top pitchers for some years now.

Hopefully, another solid performance from Reynaldo Lopez will push MLB Network to correct their mistakes in next week’s starting pitching power rankings. But, again, I doubt Braves supporters will be holding their breath.
