Braves Minor League Recap: Stripers battle to get the bats rocking in defeat to Louisville

Allan Winans put together a great effort in his outing against the Bats.

With this being the first week of Minor League baseball, the only Atlanta Braves affiliate competing is their Triple-A squad.

(3-1) Louisville Bats 2, (2-2) Gwinnett Stripers 1

  • David Fletcher 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
  • Eli White 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K
  • Allan Winans 5 ⅔ IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 K

The Stripers bats did not perform well against the Bats. At the time of the lineup, JP Martinez and David Fletcher went 3-for-7 with an RBI and a walk. Aside from those two, the rest of the lineup was a combined 2-for-23 with five strikeouts. Overall, the squad went 0 for 5 with runners in scoring position while grounding into two doubles plays.

The Stripers pitchers permitted a fair number of base runners, with 11 Bats reaching safely. They did, however, manage to limit them to only two runs, thanks in part to their 11 punchouts. Winans’ control was relatively good on the night, as he struck out 54 of his 86 pitches and walked only one. He did, however, lose the game after allowing two earned runs. Ben Bowden, Ray Kerr, and Grant Holmes pitched 3 ⅓ shutout innings, striking out two each.
