Braves land infielder from Red Sox

Atlanta is sending cash considerations to the Red Sox in exchange for Short.

The Atlanta Braves announced another transaction on Thursday. The Atlanta Braves acquired infielder Zack Short from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for monetary considerations. The Red Sox designated Short for assignment earlier this week. Atlanta also dealt Luis Guillorme to the Angels on Thursday.

Short opened the 2024 season with the Mets, appearing in ten games and going one for nine at the plate. On May 1, the Red Sox acquired him from New York in yet another monetary transaction. He appeared in two games and went 0 for 7 at the bat. He is another utility player with expertise in the middle infield and has previously played outfield. He is a right-handed hitter who is out of options. Short has participated in 191 major league games, batting.169/.262/.299 with a 55 wRC+ in 469 plate appearances.

When Atlanta traded Guillorme, it appeared like David Fletcher may return to the active roster. Instead, it appears that the Braves will test Short, at least initially. Atlanta will open a three-game series in New York on Friday.
