Brad Marchand in talks for contract extension

Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand is entering the final season of his contract and hopes to seek an extension with the team ‘at some point’.

“Obviously, I can’t believe how quickly it arrived. When asked about starting conversations on a contract extension with the Bruins, Marchand responded on Sunday, “It will definitely be a conversation at some point.” “We will proceed from there. I’ve been here my entire career and would love to continue it when the time comes.

Marchand had 29 goals and 38 assists in 82 games during the 2023-24 regular season and added three goals and seven assists in 11 games during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Marchand suffered an upper-body injury that forced him to miss Games 4, 5, and 6 of his team’s six-game series loss to the Florida Panthers in the second round.

Brad Marchand recently finished the seventh season of his eight-year, $49 million contract ($6.175 million AAV) with the Boston Bruins, which was signed on September 26, 2016. That contract proved to be a bargain for the Boston Bruins, as Marchand has scored 248 goals and 392 assists in 652 games since signing his current deal. He has also reached the 30-goal mark four times in the last seven seasons, with his greatest total coming in 2016-17, when the 5-foot-9, 176-pound winger scored 39 goals.

Marchand, who turns 36 on May 11, was selected in the third round (71st overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He has 401 goals and 528 assists in 1029 NHL games. Marchand is fourth all-time in goals scored by a Bruin behind Rick Middleton and 26 goals behind former linemate Patrice Bergeron (427).
