Boston Bruins move to current jerseys as Fanatics takes over from Adidas

After one season in special black uniforms with sparkling gold elements, the Boston Bruins have returned to modern jerseys as Fanatics replaces Adidas as the National Hockey League’s official uniform supplier.

Last summer, the Bruins unveiled new home, road, and alternate jerseys to mark their 100th anniversary in the NHL, but they were never meant to be permanent.

Bruins captain Brad Marchand appeared in a video posted to the team’s Twitter account on Wednesday morning that officially introduced the team’s “new” Fanatics clothes.

The Bruins made the changeover official on Wednesday, reintroducing a uniform template that has existed in broad strokes since 2007, when the team launched its revised “Spoked B” emblem along with the premiere of the Reebok Edge jersey line.

The Bruins made only modest changes to their home and road uniforms when the league moved from Reebok to Adidas in 2017, and their new Fanatics outfits are nearly identical to their pre-2023 Adidas counterparts.

As Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli said in a feature story on Wednesday morning, Fanatics chose to make just minimal changes to the jersey style Adidas presented seven years ago. The dimples on the shoulders are gone; the only other modifications are the Fanatics logo over the nameplate, a new holographic NHL shield on the collar, and some more reinforcement around the elbows.

The Bruins won the Stanley Cup against the Vancouver Canucks in 2011 and advanced to the Finals in 2013 and 2019, all while wearing modern-style sweaters. They had significantly less success in their centennial uniforms, falling to the Florida Panthers in the second round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

It remains to be seen whether the Bruins will wear an alternate jersey during the 2024-25 season, and if so, what it would look like. From 2019 to 2023, the Bruins wore a black third jersey with no yellow shoulder yoke and a large letter B on the chest; in 2023-24, they wore a beige alternative with a 1940s-era crest.

In March 2023, Fanatics inked a 10-year contract with the NHL to supply official jerseys from 2024-25 to 2033-34. The American sportswear business historically manufactured “Breakaway” replica jerseys for the league, while Adidas produced on-ice items.
