Boss Not Ruling Out Star Exit

Danny Röhl, Sheffield Wednesday’s manager, has not ruled out Marvin Johnson joining Town before the transfer window closes.

The Blues made an approach for Johnson, apparently offering a free transfer with incentive payments owed to the South Yorkshire club. Claims of a £1 million offer were exaggerated, and it appears that a cost in the low hundreds of thousands would be sufficient to win the signing.

Former manager Xisco initially left the 33-year-old out of the Owls’ EFL squad in the summer, but Röhl brought him back in November and has since become an important member of his team, scoring three times and assisting twice from left-back.

When asked if Johnson could leave Hillsborough before the end of the transfer window, Röhl stated, “This is a moment in the transfer window and there is no immediate move in one direction or another.”

“We can look, and we have some days where we can do something to determine what is best for the team. This is our role as a club, and we must prepare in both directions.

“In the transfer window, everything is conceivable in either direction. What is evident is that he is a starter at the moment, he has a lot of rushing forward, he has improved in defence, and he is a good left full-back for us and a useful player. In the end, certain judgments are made at the other table, not my table.”

He continued, “Marvin did well and made a nice impression; he tried everything and was wonderful.

“I’ve had a lot of meetings and conversations with my players in recent days; this is vital. It’s about the games. I particularly enjoy my interactions with Marvin. I got him back on track.

“In October, he was far away from the team, but now he has performed well; he demonstrated his performance and attitude, which was critical for me.” It’s a positive indicator, and we’ll see what we can accomplish. He’s a superb player in great shape.”

Johnson is apparently viewed as potential cover for Leif Davis, with Cameron Humphreys maybe loaned out as well. TWTD understands that a number of League One clubs are interested in loaning out the 20-year-old, who can play both midfield and left back.

Johnson, a regular in the Wednesday side that won promotion from League One via the play-offs last season, is best known to Town fans for elbowing Wes Burns in the Blues’ match against the Owls at Portman Road in February last year, for which he received a three-game suspension.
