Birmingham City have expressed interest in signing Peterborough United’s highly sought-after defender Harrison Burrows.

According to Peterborough Today, the Blues are one of several clubs keeping a close eye on the outstanding left back. Preston North End, Coventry City, and Sheffield United are among the other interested parties.

Sheffield United are said to have accepted terms with Burrows, who is in the final year of his contract. However, the Blades’ pending takeover at Bramall Lane has delayed any financial commitments, leaving the door open for other contenders.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a tremendous season, captaining Peterborough United and being named League One Player of the Season. His achievements also earned him a spot on the League One Team of the Season, demonstrating his talent and drawing interest from higher leagues.

Chairman Darragh MacAnthony told Posh’s subscription channel, as quoted by PT, that he will not prevent Burrows from leaving Weston Homes Stadium. However, he stressed that any interested clubs should not expect to pay a low price for him, despite the fact that Burrows is in the final year of his contract.

For Birmingham City, signing Burrows would be a huge statement of purpose. After being relegated from the Championship last season, the Blues are rebuilding. They have already signed goalkeepers Ryan Allsop and Bailey Peacock-Farrell, last season’s League One top scorer Alfie May, and Swedish winger Emil Hansson. Birmingham City, with the highest budget in League One, aspires to be highly competitive and secure an immediate return to the Championship, with the goal of progressing even farther.

Simultaneously, a movement looks to be taking place in the left-back position, with Sky Sports’ Tim Thornton reporting that Emmanuel Longelo appears set to join Barnsley, leaving a space that the Blues may now fill for the forthcoming season. They are also trying to reinforce other defensive positions, such as centre backs and backup right back Ethan Laird.

Acquiring a quality player like Burrows, who is seen as a potential Premier League prospect, would not only strengthen Birmingham City’s defensive options but also demonstrate their serious dedication to their objectives. His leadership abilities and on-field prowess make him an excellent contender to guide the Blues back to the Championship, and potentially beyond.
