BJ Hill had a blast taking on the entire Colts offensive line by himself

After Joe Burrow injured his wrist, the Cincinnati Bengals don’t have much chance for another Super Bowl berth this year.

However, backup quarterback Jake Browning has been fairly competent, which means Cincinnati still has a chance to make the playoffs. With their rout of the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, they took a giant step toward that aim.

The Bengals’ defense was vital in the victory, allowing Gardner Minshew and company to only 14 points on the day. Not the most amazing feat against this specific Colts offense, but it is the NFL. It’s difficult to stop anyone out there. The defense also provided a delightful mic’d up highlight for football enthusiasts.

Defensive lineman BJ Hill was mic’d for the game and was essentially the lone down lineman rushing the QB at one point. Hill, in an exceptional but not unheard-of case, foresaw what was about to happen and had some fun with it.

I love how he tried to do the “I’m just joking around” approach and then went full speed. A classic subtle strategy that those of us with less athletic ability are familiar with. Then a simple “let me get through” request to finish it off.

This makes me feel like there are a lot of missed opportunities in terms of not miking up linemen. Typically, quarterbacks and receivers win this accolade because they have the most outspoken personalities. In the case of quarterbacks, the lack of down-to-down contact helps ensure the microphone stays in place and does not break, which makes sense. But it’s the things said in the trenches that counts. After all, that’s where the game is won.

Give me some good old-fashioned trash talk in the middle of it all between the big boys. That’s where the excitement is.
